Sonic the Hedgehog Two Announced

Video-on-Demand Releases have proven profitable for film studios in Hollywood. The coronavirus pandemic prompted studios like Universal Pictures & Paramount to release films directly to services like Google Play Movies. Cinemas worldwide have kept their doors closed during the virus, forcing the change of format. The format has proven itself so profitable that one recently released film is obtaining a sequel. Sonic the Hedgehog Two is being developed by Jeff Fowler, Josh Miller & Pat Casey. These three men were responsible for the 1st film earning $70 million in four days.

Critics hadn’t anticipated that Sonic the Hedgehog would perform with high profits. This follows after online criticism from fans was immense with the initial design of Sonic. Releasing this film would be postponed by six months, with Paramount Studios having to redesign CGI Shots including Sonic the Hedgehog. It’s unknown how much these design changes costed the film studio.

Jeff Fowler thought that Sonic the Hedgehog should represent a humanlike creature, creating something that was horrific & would’ve scared children more than entertain. This prompted the initial release date of November 2019 to be postponed until May 2020, with the newest incarnation of the character resembling his video game counterpart. Since the character design changes, Sonic the Hedgehog has been critically praised by fans on services like Rotten Tomatoes.

The film obtained unexpected popularity because of the notable performance shown by Jim Carrey. Unexpected comedic elements that normally would’ve been seen from Sonic switched over towards Doctor Robotnik, which was unavoidable with Jim Carrey stealing the show. It’s unknown if either Jim Carrey or Ben Schwartz will return to reprise their respective roles. Details on when production will begin also wasn’t issued by Jim Fowler, with the Director making the sequel confirmation announcement.
